Steam Treatment

Steam treatment is the highest recommended method for killing Bed Bugs. This is because, steam kills all stages of the life cycle of bed bugs without the use of harsh chemicals. Steam treatment minimizes the chemicals used in treating your bed. Chemical treatments can leave a smell on your bed; they also can pose potential health risks. As with any pest problem - Success depends on an Integrated Pest Management approach to bed bug control. This includes steaming and vacuuming, laundering belongings, and sealing areas and gaps where bed bugs can hide.

Newly hatched nymphs feed as soon as food is available. A bed bug goes through five moults before it reaches full maturity. The nymphs are shaped like the adults, but are yellow-white in colour. Newly hatched nymphs are translucent, lighter in color and become browner as they moult and reach maturity. The bed bug eggs are white, about 1 mm long (1/25 inch), and are almost impossible to see on most surfaces. The female bed bug lays at least 200 eggs in her lifetime, at a rate of about two or four per day. The eggs have a sticky coating and are deposited in cracks and crevices, behind woodwork and similar hidden locations. They usually hatch in 6 to 17 days.

Bed bug infestations in urban areas are on the rise. The most effective treatment against Bed Bugs is high temperature steam. Steam will kill bedbugs at all stages of their life cycle. There are many treatment options available for bed bugs, however many are complicated, expensive and often utilize chemicals.

Pest Services’s steam cleaners offer an insecticide-free solution for bed bugs. It is imperative that the steam machine you choose produce a dry ‘vapor’ steam. This means it musthave a minimum temperature of 120°F or 36°C to be effective in killing bed bugs and properly sanitizing all home surfaces.

Bedbugs have become an increasing health concern in major urban centres such as Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal and Vancouver.

Bedbugs or bed bugs are small parasitic insects of the family Cimicidae. The term usually refers to species that prefer to feed on human blood. Others species such as Oeciacus hirundinis (martin bug) feed on other species such as birds. All insects in this family live by feeding exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals. We are primarily concerned with Cimex lectularius or the bedbug. The name 'bedbug' is derived from the insect's preferred habitat of houses and especially beds or other areas where people sleep. Bedbugs, though not strictly nocturnal, are mainly active at night and are capable of feeding unnoticed on their hosts.

Bed bugs prefer to feed on human blood, but will also bite mammals and birds. Bed bugs bite at night, and will bite all over a human body, especially around the face, neck, upper torso, arms and hands. Bed bugs can survive up to six months without feeding. Both male and female bed bugs bite.
Because bed bugs are hard to get rid of, a pest control operator is a simple solution. Usually more than one chemical treatment is required, and must be done in addition to physical control such as vacuming and decluttering. We over a variety of programs, services and products for bedbugs including insecticide treatment, steam treatment, dusting, mattress encasements and bedbug monitering devices.
To prevent future bed bug infestations, mattresses must be completely enclosed. They can be wrapped in zippered bed encasements available from our store see our Bed bug mattress encasement section. Be cautious about taking in second-hand furniture, bedding, mattresses or beds. Inspect and clean them before bringing them home. When you travel, inspect the mattress and headboard in the hotel room, do not bring your pillow from home, and do not put your suitcase on the bed.
